All the World Diabetes Day events in South Africa 2021

November is National Diabetes Month, and the 14th November is World Diabetes Day. We’re delighted to share the many events on offer for people living with diabetes this month. Please join us at any or all of the below!


Wednesday 3rd November: Webinar on Diabetes

Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) is holding a Life Orientation webinar on diabetes on Wednesday 3rd November from 2.30 to 4pm.

Wednesday 10th November: SA’s Inaugural Diabetes Summit

South Africa’s first Diabetes Summit promises to be a fascinating morning of discussion about the diabetes situation in South Africa, with some of SA’s top diabetes experts. The event is co-hosted by the Diabetes Alliance and the University of Pretoria Diabetes Research Centre.

Thursday 11th November: CDE Virtual Community Outreach Day

In celebration of World Diabetes Day (WDD), the CDE Academy is proud to host a Virtual Community Outreach Day (free of charge) for the members of the public who have diabetes, or for those who support people with diabetes as family members, friends, teachers and caregivers.

Friday 12th November: Wear Blue for Diabetes

Let’s come together to create awareness around Type 1 diabetes in our schools and communities. Whether you’re a person living with diabetes, a carer of someone living with diabetes or a friend or family member, we want you to join us in wearing blue to create awareness for diabetes. Invite your school, workplace or friends to join in on the fun!

Saturday 13th November: AstraZeneca MEA virtual summit

AstraZeneca is delighted to be collaborating with partners across the Middle East & Africa (MEA) to bring you this special Patient Summit dedicated to Type 2 Diabetes and it’s complications. The Summit will include perspectives shared from Patients, health-care professionals & Patient Advocates and will provide a platform for discussion and story sharing, as well as offering a space for learning and support.

Sunday 14th November: Dance for Diabetes

In celebration of World Diabetes Day, Sweet Life is inviting you to join our community and Dance for Diabetes. Gather your friends and family, wear blue for diabetes and join us at 12pm on Sunday 14th November to dance!

Sunday 14th November: Walking in memory of Caylee Usher

Let’s walk in memory and support of those who lost family members and friends to diabetes. If you are in Cape Town, wear blue and join us for a 5km walk at Mouille Point Lighthouse at 10am.

Sunday 14th November: Walking to honor Kgotsho Mabaso

Tembisa Black Pirates presents a Diabetes Awareness Fun Walk in memory of Kgotso Mabaso at Esiqongweni Sports Ground from 10am to 12pm.
