What’s inside the Mental Health and Diabetes book

We are so pleased to share this Mental Health and Diabetes book with you, because we know it’s what South Africans with diabetes really need.

Accessing mental health services in South Africa is hard – particularly in the public sector, but even if you’re on medical aid. Some of that is red tape, and some of it is that if you need help with your mental health, you probably don’t have the energy to reach out for support.

Practical, helpful advice

Our goal with this book is to distill the wisdom of one of South Africa’s most trusted clinical psychologists, Daniel Sher, who has not only lived with Type 1 diabetes for over 30 years but also works with people with diabetes every day. Daniel has generously shared his expertise with us so that even those who don’t have access to a psychologist can benefit from his advice. And that advice is remarkably consistent.

Whether it’s dealing with depression, anxiety, diabetes distress or stress, the tools are the same: we should all try to eat well, sleep, exercise, breathe consciously, connect with other people and solve our problems one small step at a time.

I really hope the advice in these pages will make that a little easier. And we look forward to connecting with you online through our website and social media.
