Type 2 diabetes and healthy diet?

Aren’t the doctors too quick to put one on medication, rather than trying to help a person to control diabetes (Type 2 diabetes) with a healthy diet?

I’m a type 2 diabetic and my blood sugar is almost always between 5.8 up to 7.4; the highest was 11.8 about 4 months ago, I only take 1mg of Clamyral.
