The neonatal diabetes test

There is research going on in the UK to determine if your child has neonatal diabetes. We had the tests done and unfortunately my grandson of 22 months does not have neonatal diabetes. Very disappointed but we still hope for a cure soon.

You can get info from www.diabetesgenes.org – on the left side you will see neonatal diabetes, this is for babies diagnosed before 6 months but they can still get access to the genetic testing no matter what age they are now.

The research is done free of charge, but you have to get the DNA to the UK which was around R1000. If your child has neonatal diabetes they do not have to take insulin anymore, they can be treated with medicine. My grandson was diagnosed at 7 months but we were hoping for a miracle!
