We know that parents of kids with diabetes have a lot to deal with… All the usual parenting plus a whole lot more to worry about – from healthy eating to diabetes-friendly kids meals to how to deal with birthday parties as a diabetic child. We’ve spoken a little bit about taking diabetes education to schools and parenting a child with diabetes. But it’s a big topic. Which is why we’re delighted to share with you that the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has created a whole ‘Kids and diabetes in school’ section on their website, full of helpful information.
Diabetes information for kids, and schools
Take a look at this page to find out all about the resources on offer. You and your child can go through all the information, and then share them with teachers, classes and friends. The IDF “Kids and Diabetes in School” (KiDS) Project aims at creating a supportive school environment for children with Type 1 diabetes and encouraging healthy nutrition and lifestyles to prevent Type 2 diabetes.
A set of resources is available online to organise sessions and help children, parents and teachers understand and raise awareness about diabetes.
- The Kids Diabetes Information Pack about diabetes, its management and prevention.
- The KiDS Nutrition Guide about the importance of nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices in diabetes prevention.
- The interactive NutriQuiz, complementary to the KiDS Nutrition Guide.
