Diabetes course: Cape Town, South Africa

Families / friends / partners / siblings / people with diabetes, listen up! There’s a fantastic course coming up in Cape Town, and you’re invited:

The next diabetes education course will be held on 16, 17 and 18 August 2011, ie Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, from 6pm-8pm.

General info:
Lara Wiese is a medical counsellor specialising in diabetes education, and she is running a 3 session course with Dr Joel Dave, registered endocrinologist, along with other healthcare providers. The course is for everyone in the diabetes community, not just for Dr Dave’s patients.

The structure will be formal speakers addressing the whole group of patients for the first hour, then some tea/coffee and snacks, and the last hour will be small group sessions of 15 minutes each. This will enable you to ask questions and be more interactive without feeling shy! We have about 20 different health professionals speaking over the 3 sessions, from podiatrists, dieticians, wound care specialists and ophthalmologist to Sports Science Institute and a weight-loss hypnotherapist! We aim to cover all aspects of diabetes management in a positive, motivational way, and give each person a chance to interact with doctors, nurses and others in an informal environment. By the end of the course you should feel empowered and knowledgeable, and inspired to  look after yourself. You will also receive a fabulous goodie bag with samples and literature, as well as discounts/special offers from the speakers.
If you would like the formal programme with exact speakers please contact me

Registration:
Email Lara on info@larawieseconsulting.com for registration details.

Places:
Places are available on a first come first served basis, and they are limited, so if you are keen please get in touch as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment. Lara can hold a place for you for 48 hours, after which you will need to have made payment and faxed/emailed proof of this. This will then secure your booking.

Cost:
The total cost for the 3 sessions is R350 per person, or R600 per couple (i.e. diabetic person and partner/friend/care-giver). So you’ll be paying less than R60 per hour to pick the brains of specialists who charge up to R 1200 per hour!

Venue:
The course will be held at Room 310, Library Square in Wilderness Rd, Claremont, opposite Kingsbury Hospital entrance, and there will be free secure parking available.
