A guide to Type 1 diabetes: You can have your cake and eat it!

“This book is written in an approachable style by a person living with Type 1 diabetes. It serves as a management and care guide, emphasizing on sick day protocol and providing advice on relationships and travel,” says author of the book, Gabriela Richter who has been living with Type 1 diabetes for 18 years.

Can you tell us about your book?

The book is a comprehensive guide to Type 1 diabetes — all the things we know but forget.

Why did you decide to write it?

The book was conceptualised years ago over coffee and cake, hence the title. With my friend Annchen Farerria, who has since passed away, we wanted to make a book that compiles all the information you know and forget. We saw a gap in the market for a cohesive guide that is written in a way that everyone can understand, from the person living with Type 1 to those caring for them.

It took me a while, but it’s finally done!

The book is aimed at people living with Type 1 diabetes and those who are connected to it, be it a carer or a friend.
