Who is Sweet Life?

Sweet Life is a non-profit and Public Benefit Organisation that empowers South Africans with diabetes through education and community. We are South Africa’s largest online diabetes community.

Diabetes is the number one killer of South Africans (!) so our work is to help people with diabetes to understand their condition so that they feel empowered to live healthy, happy lives with diabetes. We also focus on educating children about healthy eating and the symptoms of diabetes so that they can be informed adults, and teach their families.

Sweet Life empowers South Africans with diabetes through education and community.

Where will your donation go?

We recognise that donations are more satisfying when you can see a tangible result from them. That’s why all donations will go towards our Diabetes education in schools project, and specifically towards printing Healthy Food Guides to give to children in underserved areas. We previously ran a 5 symptoms of diabetes campaign that was hugely successful.

The Healthy Food Guide was developed with the National Department of Health and shows what foods to eat and in which portions for diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol or if you need to lose weight.

Diabetes is currently the leading cause of death in South Africa. We need to educate our children to empower the next generation and change this statistic.

Each donation counts

Every R100 donation lets us print 20 extra Healthy Food Guides.
Every R200 donation? 40 Healthy Food Guides.
Every R800 donation? 150 Healthy Food Guides.

Our goal is 100 Grade 5 kids per school in every public school in South Africa.
That’s 1 million children empowered.

Please help us in our mission by sharing this campaign!
The more people who join us, the more South Africans with diabetes
we can empower.

Empowering South Africans with diabetes through education

Help us solve one of the biggest causes of mortality in South Africa by giving South Africans with diabetes exactly the diabetes education they need.

In 2026, our education projects include:

  • A new and improved Sweet Life Chatbot, our WhatsApp diabetes education chatbot.
  • Diabetes education in schools: ensuring that all South African children in Grade 5 get a diabetes education session (with a diabetes advocate), including a printed Healthy Food Guide and TEEL leaflet to take home.
  • A Type 1 diabetes guidebook with all the best expert advice at the right health literacy level (and in the right language). To send to children with Type 1 diabetes nationwide, particularly in underserved areas.
  • A diabetes and mental health book to distill the most important mental health advice from diabetes psychologists for those without access.
  • Facebook Lives with top diabetes experts to bring the most important diabetes education to our community.

Community projects for 2026

As South Africa’s largest online diabetes community, we run two big awareness campaigns each year:

#DiabetesLooksLikeMe diabetes stigma campaign: May 14th

Diabetes stigma is not just a mental health issue. Half of all South Africans with diabetes are undiagnosed, and one of the reasons for that is the stigma surrounding diabetes. Each year on May 14th we run a nationwide diabetes stigma campaign to combat this: #DiabetesLooksLikeMe

#WearBlueforDiabetes awareness campaign: November 14th

Every November, we run South Africa’s largest diabetes awareness campaign: #WearBlueforDiabetes. This year, we sent 100 Diabetes DIY Event Boxes around the country, empowering 100 diabetes champions to hold events in their own communities. Find out all about #WearBlueforDiabetes & Change a Life.

All donations are tax-deductible
